Mary Lake was abducted to Japan in August 2005. Today, after nearly seven years, she heads home to Florida. We just spoke to Mr. Lake who has confirmed that Mary landed safely on U.S. soil and has just boarded another flight on her journey home.

One of the many shocking aspects of this story is no one in the Lake family is of Japanese ancestry or holds a Japanese passport. Yet for nearly seven years Mary had been held in Japan where the Japanese government made no effort to return her to the U.S. Instead they provided safe harbor to her abductor, as they do in the 350+ other cases of children abducted from the U.S., thousands of other cases from within Japan, and an untold number from other countries like Canada, Spain, Australia, Ireland, and the United Kingdom to name a few.
We are extremely happy for Mr. Lake and Mary. They will finally be reunited a few short hours from now.
