"On January 5, 2006 my daughter Jade Maki Elias was born at the Naval Hospital in Camp Lejune North Carolina where I was stationed in the Marine Corps prior to my deployment. I relocated my family to New Jersey with my parents and extended family where I knew they would be cared for. Michael Angel Elias was born on August 2 ,2007 in Hackensack Medical Center in New Jersey while I was serving my country in Iraq . Shortly after my return, Mayumi and I separated. On December 6, 2008 my wife Mayumi, an employee of the Japanese Consulate in New York City, and her boyfriend, Kenichiro Negishi, violated U.S court orders by abducting Jade and Michael to Japan. Although all necessary attempts through our legal system were in place to secure the safety and well being of our children, the abductors were able to carry out this unimaginable crime by misleading the Consulates in Chicago and New York by falsely obtaining new passports for the children. Jade brought a new light into my heart that will shine forever and Michael is a sweet loving boy who I am so proud to call my son. I was given the most precious gifts in life, my children, and all our hopes and dreams for our future were taken away."
